A Horror Visual Novel Game

What if one day you came home to find a strange individual has moved into your home. At first you try to be nice about it. You know this isn’t a mix-up. This is most certainly the home that you own and have lived in for quite some time. However, this person who refers to themselves as nothing else but “Homeowner” insists that not only is they are the original inhabitant of this home, but currently still own the home.

Super creepy………. I mean, YOU own the house.

Well this is the premise of the upcoming game “This Is Not Your House.”

This Is Not Your House is a Visual Novel Horror game where you return home to discover that someone has taken up residence in your place. The game thrusts you into various scenarios, each with distinct dialogues that force you to make choices—some leading to a straightforward reclamation of your home, while others spiral into a terrifying descent.

But before diving deeper, let’s clarify what Visual Novels are: they are narrative-driven, click-based games that place the player in direct control of the protagonist through dialogue choices and actions. While these games span across genres, they are notoriously challenging to execute well, as they demand seamless integration of story, artwork, and music to truly set the game's tone.

This Is Not Your House masterfully creates a chilling atmosphere with its eerie music, perfectly timed cues, and 80s-inspired artwork. Just picture poor Roger (the player) trying to flee—it’s enough to make anyone's skin crawl. The game excels at keeping you on edge, making you wary of what might lurk around every corner.

The core of the game revolves around your struggle to regain entry to your home after a stranger changes the locks and takes over. But achieving this goal isn’t straightforward. With unexpected twists and multiple layers to uncover, you’ll find yourself replaying the game to unravel the mystery of this enigmatic "homeowner." Featuring 10 alternate endings and numerous paths to explore, the game promises a deeply immersive experience.

Set for release on August 23rd, This Is Not Your House will be available on Steam and Itch.io, with a pending release on GOG. The game is developed and published by the studio “Trash Eyes.”
